Iraq’s parliamentary elections: Tight competition for 329 seats among major coalitions
Iraq’s early parliamentary elections were held on Saturday, November 10, with a high voter turnout, with the main coalitions competing closely for a majority of the 329 seats in parliament.
The framework, led by prominent political figures, with the slogan of stability and reconstruction, succeeded in winning the most votes in several key provinces.
Kurdish coalitions in the Kurdistan Region and nationalist coalitions in the central and southern provinces divided another portion of the seats.
Independent parties and local candidates also achieved successes in some areas.
International observers, including the United Nations, described the voting process as calm and orderly, although there were reports of technical problems at some polling stations.
These first elections after the widespread protests of recent years are seen as a test for political stability and the formation of a new Iraqi government.
