UN warns of severe famine in two Sudanese cities by January 2026

The United Nations announced that the two cities of El Fasher and Kadugli in Sudan have entered a phase of acute famine, and this situation will continue until January 2026.

According to UN assessments, the change of control of the city of El Fasher on October 26 has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, with widespread displacement of people to surrounding areas, including Tawilah, and a severe deterioration in food conditions.

Also, 20 other areas in Darfur and Kordofan are at risk of famine.

The warning comes as Sudan’s civil war has severely restricted access to humanitarian aid and pushed millions of people to the brink of starvation.
