UN and WHO launch emergency relief operations for earthquake in northern Iran
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that it, along with other humanitarian agencies, has dispatched relief teams to the earthquake-stricken areas of Balkh and Samangan provinces and has launched immediate relief operations.
OCHA warned that based on initial reports, the death toll from last night’s untimely earthquake is likely to rise.
On the other hand, the World Health Organization (WHO) sent rescue equipment and emergency health services to the affected areas hours after the earthquake.
Teams from this organization have also arrived on the scene to assess the immediate needs of the injured.
The health organization emphasized that the earthquake occurred while Afghanistan is still dealing with the devastating consequences of the recent deadly earthquake in the east of the country.
International relief operations are continuing in coordination with local authorities.
