Earthquake in Samangan and Balkh kills more than 20, injures 320

The spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health announced that more than 20 people were killed and nearly 320 others were injured in the untimely earthquake that struck last night in Samangan and Balkh provinces.

Sharafat Zaman Amarkhail, spokesperson for the ministry, said that the health and rescue teams of the Ministry of Public Health are present at the scene of the incident and that the leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has ordered all hospitals to be fully prepared to provide health services to the injured.

He added that the death toll and damage figures from the earthquake are still changing and that relief teams are collecting accurate information.

This earthquake, which was reported to have a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale, caused extensive damage to residential buildings, infrastructure, and historical sites, including the Holy Shrine of Mazar-e-Sharif, in addition to causing casualties.
