At least 21 killed in heavy rains, landslides in western Kenya
At least 21 people have died, 25 have been injured and more than 1,000 houses have been destroyed following heavy rains and landslides in the mountainous Chisunguch area of Elgio-Marakot County in western Kenya.
Al Jazeera reported that the incident occurred during the short annual rainy season, which brings heavy rains to the area.
Kenya’s Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkoman announced that search and rescue operations are underway by security forces for survivors.
He added that 21 people have been confirmed dead and 25 injured so far, and 30 others are still missing.
Local authorities have warned that there is a possibility of increased casualties and damage as the rains continue
