US, India sign 10-year defense framework agreement
The United States and India have signed a 10-year defense framework agreement that has been described as a cornerstone of regional stability and deterrence.
According to Reuters, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegsett announced the agreement on Friday after meeting with Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
“I signed a 10-year US-India Defense Framework Agreement with the Indian Defense Minister,” Hegsett wrote in his X-Post.
The framework focuses on greater coordination of information sharing and technological cooperation and is part of the two countries’ efforts to address regional challenges, particularly threats from China.
The agreement, which was finalized on the sidelines of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ meeting in Malaysia, emphasizes arms sales, joint exercises, and the development of defense technologies.
The move strengthens Washington and New Delhi’s defense ties under President Donald Trump and is expected to help increase bilateral defense trade and stability in the Indian Ocean.
