Afghanistan, Pakistan talks reach deadlock in Turkey

The second round of negotiations between the delegations of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and Pakistan in Istanbul, Türkiye, ended without achieving a positive result and faced serious challenges.

News sources reported that deep distrust between the two sides and conflicting security interests prevented any significant progress.

According to sources, Qatar and Turkey have repeatedly tried to keep the talks constructive, but differences over key issues such as controlling Pakistan’s internal attacks and the activities of terrorist groups have led to a deadlock.

The Afghan delegation stressed that the responsibility for containing attacks inside Pakistan lies with the security forces of that country and Afghanistan only commits not to use its territory against any country, including Pakistan.

In addition, the passage of American drones through Pakistani airspace towards Afghanistan and ISIS activities also fueled tensions.

The Pakistani delegation initially agreed to some agreements, but after telephone consultations, it withdrew, stating that it was unable to control these issues.
