Prince Andrew resigns from British royal titles after ethics scandals
Prince Andrew, brother of King Charles III, has announced in an unprecedented move that he will give up his royal title of Duke of York and other honors.
The decision, made after consultation with the King and members of the British royal family, follows growing pressure from the scandals surrounding Jeffrey Eastin and allegations of Chinese espionage.
In an official statement released on Friday, Andrew, 65, said: “In consultation with His Royal Highness and my extended family, we have concluded that the ongoing allegations against me are distracting from the work of His Royal Highness and the Royal Family.”
I have decided, as I always have, to prioritize my duty to my family and country. I stand by my decision of five years ago to withdraw from public life, and with the approval of His Majesty, we feel I must take a step further.
Therefore, I will no longer use my title or the honors that have been bestowed upon me.
