The Swiss government has appointed Stéphane Re as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The new ambassador will be based in Islamabad and will represent Swiss diplomatic interests in both countries.
This appointment comes as border tensions between Kabul and Islamabad increase and the need for diplomatic mediation is felt more.
Stefan Rey, an experienced Swiss diplomat, will be responsible for strengthening bilateral relations and supporting peace efforts.
As a neutral country, Switzerland has a long history of regional mediation.
