The Spanish Interior Minister announced that Madrid is taking the preemptive step of filing a complaint against the Israeli regime at the International Criminal Court (ICC) over incidents related to the Global Sumud Flotilla (Sumud “aid”) and considers any attack on individuals in international waters to be an example of deprivation of liberty and subject to legal prosecution.
According to Al Jazeera Arabic, Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marcasca stressed in a statement on Monday, October 6, 2025, that Spain “is acting fully actively in this case and will appear before the International Criminal Court to defend the fundamental rights and public freedoms of Spanish citizens and other citizens.”
This action comes after Israeli forces intercepted and seized more than 40 ships from the Samood flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, including activists, parliamentarians, and lawyers from more than 50 countries, in international waters in early October 2025.
