Positive end to first round of mediators’ talks with Hamas in Egypt

The first round of indirect talks between Egyptian, Qatari and American mediators with the Hamas delegation in Egypt ended with a positive approach, and the roadmap and mechanisms for the current round of negotiations for the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan in Gaza were determined.

According to Al Jazeera, the meeting, which was held on Monday (October 6, 2025) in the coastal city of Sharm El Sheikh on the Red Sea coast, yielded some progress, and the talks are scheduled to continue today, Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Hamas delegation emphasized the need for an immediate halt to Israeli bombardments in Gaza and warned that continued military attacks would pose serious challenges to the agreement on the release of prisoners and hostages.

Trump, who has offered his peace plan to end the two-year Gaza war, said from the White House, “I really think we’re going to reach an agreement,” adding that the Hamas resistance movement had agreed to important issues.

The United Nations and Arab countries have also welcomed these efforts and emphasized the need for an immediate end to the violence.
