Armed clashes between Golani forces and SDF resume in Aleppo, Syria

Armed clashes between militias affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the forces of the Syrian Interim Government led by Abu Muhammad al-Julani in the city of Aleppo, especially in the areas of Al-Awarid, Sheikh Maqsoud and Al-Ashrafiya, resumed after a short break, resulting in the deaths and injuries of several people.

According to Al Jazeera and local Syrian sources, forces affiliated with the interim government of Golani attacked SDF positions in the Al-Awarid area using mortars and direct fire.

The clashes, which began around 10 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025, flared up again after a few minutes of relative calm.

An official Syrian source told Al Jazeera that three members of the security forces affiliated with the interim government were killed and several others were injured in the clashes.

At the same time, reports from Syrian media outlets such as Al-Souriya TV indicate scattered shootings in the Sheikh Maqsoud area, which resulted in the injury of a number of civilians.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the clashes were part of growing tensions between the SDF and the interim government forces, who are at odds over the integration of Kurdish forces into the new Syrian army and control of border areas in Aleppo.

According to the March 2025 agreement, the SDF was supposed to join government structures, but disagreements over Kurdish autonomy and control of oil fields have led to a deadlock in the negotiations.

The United Nations and the Arab League have condemned the clashes and called for an immediate return to the negotiating table, warning that such tensions could make ISIS remnants more active in eastern Syria.
