The Minister of Economy meets with the Deputy Ambassador of Japan to resume the New Kabul Drinking Water Project

Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, Minister of Economy of the Islamic Emirate met with Mai Kyo Izawa, Deputy Ambassador of Japan to Kabul

According to a press release from the Ministry of Economy, in this meeting, the two sides discussed the drinking water supply project for the new Kabul city, and Mr. Hanif called for the resumption of work on this project.

The Japanese deputy ambassador expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the recent earthquake in the eastern provinces of the country and assured them of Japan’s emergency assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

He also promised to discuss the issue of resuming the project with relevant Japanese agencies.

The New Kabul City Drinking Water Supply Project was launched in 2020 with funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) worth $24 million and was implemented by UNOPS, but has been on hold for the past four years due to the fall of the previous government and the suspension of international aid.
