47 French ISIS members transferred from Syria to Iraq for trial

On Friday (September 19, 2025), the Iraqi National Intelligence Organization announced the transfer of 47 French citizens accused of being members of the ISIS terrorist organization from northeastern Syria to Iraq.

These individuals have been handed over to the Iraqi judiciary for trial on charges of participating in terrorist crimes against the Iraqi people.

According to a statement from the Iraqi National Intelligence Organization, the transfer is part of ongoing efforts to pursue ISIS elements regardless of their nationality or place of residence.

France is one of the European countries with the largest number of citizens who have joined the ranks of ISIS in Iraq and Syria, and it is estimated that hundreds of its citizens have participated in terrorist activities.
