Kabul-Jalalabad highway closed due to rain and flooding in Nangarhar
The Kabul-Jalalabad highway was closed to traffic on Thursday morning due to heavy rainfall and flooding in the Nazarabad area of Nangarhar Province.
The Ministry of Public Works confirmed in a statement that machinery and personnel from the Nangarhar Public Works Department are present at the scene and urgent efforts are underway to clear the road and reopen the highway.
Ministry officials have predicted that a full reopening may take several hours, given the severity of the flooding, and have urged travelers to avoid traveling this route.
This incident comes as recent rainfall in the east of the country has caused numerous damages, including the destruction of bridges and secondary roads in Nangarhar, disrupting traffic.
The Ministry of Public Works has emphasized that preventive measures are on the agenda to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
