UN report: 21,000 children in Gaza disabled by war

Some 40,500 Palestinian children have been injured since the Israeli regime’s war against the Gaza Strip began in October 2023, with more than half of them, about 21,000, suffering permanent disabilities, the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities said in a shocking report.

These statistics reflect the great humanitarian catastrophe that the children of Gaza have suffered as the greatest victims of the Israeli regime’s genocidal war.

The committee emphasized that the Israeli regime even prevents essential equipment such as canes and wheelchairs for the disabled from entering Gaza, which has worsened the situation for people with disabilities, especially children.

Reports indicate that people with hearing or visual disabilities are unable to receive evacuation orders from the regime’s army because warning and evacuation systems are inaccessible to them, putting their lives at serious risk.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs also announced that Gaza hosts the largest group of amputated children in modern times.
