Suspicious deaths of four German far-right candidates ahead of local elections
Four candidates from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party have died suddenly, media reported on the eve of the local elections in the state of Nur in Germany’s most populous state.
These candidates, who had a high chance of success in the September 14, 2025 elections, have unexpectedly lost their lives, which has sparked a wave of speculation in cyberspace and political circles.
The Berliner Zeitung newspaper and the police light in Westphalia said that no evidence of foul play had been found in the deaths.
However, the event has overshadowed the state’s local elections.
The AfD party, which in recent polls by the Forsa Institute in January 2025 showed an increase of 8.9 percentage points compared to the 2020 elections, with 14% of the vote, is now facing a major challenge.
The incident has raised concerns about election security and its impact on the German political climate.
