Shanghai Cooperation Organization: Formation of an inclusive government is the key to lasting peace in Afghanistan
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) emphasized in a joint statement from its summit in Tianjin, China, the need to form an inclusive government in Afghanistan as the only way to achieve lasting peace and stability.
The organization announced that member states support international efforts to help bring peace and progress to Afghanistan.
“SCO member states support an independent, neutral, peaceful and free from terrorism, war and drugs,” the statement said.
Members also welcomed the establishment of the UN Regional Office for the Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
This is while the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has repeatedly emphasized that the current government of this country represents all segments of society and acts as an inclusive government.
A two-day summit of the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in Tianjin, China, and regional issues, including the country’s situation, were among the main topics of discussion.
