More than 550 former senior officials from Israel’s security and diplomatic institutions, including the former heads of the Shin Bet and Mossad, have called on US President Donald Trump in an open letter to put pressure on the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to end Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza.
According to Israeli media reports, the signatories of the letter, including former Shin Bet chief Amy Ayalon, emphasized that Hamas is no longer a strategic threat to Israel and that continuing the war will only endanger the lives of the hostages and increase the suffering of the Palestinians.
They believe that the main goal, the return of the hostages, can only be achieved through a ceasefire agreement.
These officials urged Trump to use his influence to guide Netanyahu toward a ceasefire and then lead a regional coalition to transfer control of Gaza to the Palestinian Authority.
