The White House is considering pulling out of the Ukraine peace talks due to what it calls “showmanship” by European leaders, the Axios news outlet reported.
According to the media outlet, American officials believe that European leaders are exploiting US financial and military support with the aim of prolonging the war in Ukraine to achieve “victory” against Russia, while the US is bearing the main cost of the conflict.
The report comes as US President Donald Trump has previously spoken of his determination to quickly end the war in Ukraine, but there have been signs of frustration in the White House due to the lack of progress in the negotiations.
Axios reported, citing two sources familiar with the matter, that Trump stressed the need for a bilateral meeting between Putin and Zelensky in a recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, while Volodymyr Zelensky and seven European leaders were present at the White House.
