US warships transit the Panama Canal, escalating tensions in the Caribbean region
According to international media reports, a US warship equipped with guided missiles was spotted on Friday evening while passing through the Panama Canal from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea.
This action comes in line with recent US military movements in the region and, according to informed sources, is part of Washington’s broader plan to deploy forces near the coast of Venezuela.
These military movements come as the Donald Trump administration, claiming to combat drug trafficking, has deployed several warships, including three guided-missile destroyers, an amphibious assault ship, a guided-missile cruiser, and a nuclear-powered attack submarine, to waters near Venezuela. The deployment includes about 4,500 Marines and Navy sailors.
In response to these actions, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez warned the United States against any military invasion, stressing that such actions would be met with strong resistance from Venezuelan forces.
