India’s oil imports from Russia to fall by 24.5% in July 2025
According to Reuters, trade data shows that India imported 1.5 million barrels of oil per day from Russia in July 2025, a decrease of 24.5% compared to June of this year.
Trade sources cited reduced discounts on Russian oil and a drop in domestic demand due to the rainy season as the main reasons for the decline.
Private refineries such as Reliance and Nayara continue to handle the bulk of oil imports from Russia, although Russia remains India’s largest oil supplier, followed by Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
This is while data for the first seven months of 2025 shows a 3.6% decline in India’s oil imports from Russia and a 58% increase in imports from the United States.
US officials have warned that continuing to buy oil from Russia could expose India to new pressure from Washington.
These developments reflect India’s efforts to balance energy supply amid geopolitical pressures and domestic needs.
