Hamas official: We are ready to implement the ceasefire agreement and the Gaza Administration Committee

Taher al-Nunu, media advisor to the head of Hamas’ political bureau, announced in an interview with the media on Tuesday  August 19th that Hamas has agreed to the new plan proposed by Egyptian and Qatari mediators for a ceasefire in Gaza and is ready to implement it, including forming an independent committee to govern Gaza.

Al-Nono stressed that this movement has fulfilled its duty to the Palestinian people to end the war in Gaza and that we do not seek to see the negotiations fail.

These statements were made while recent negotiations are underway in Cairo with the presence of Hamas representatives from Israel and mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.

The proposed plan includes a 60-day ceasefire, the phased release of Israeli hostages of about 20 people in the first phase, including 10 alive and 8 dead, in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners, and the creation of an independent committee to govern Gaza without the presence of Hamas.

Al-Nono also added that Hamas has no problem with the principle of forming a technocratic committee to govern Gaza, and stressed the need for guarantees for a permanent end to the war and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
