Deadly floods in China leave 8 dead, 4 missing in Bayan-Nur
According to local sources, a river flood on the outskirts of the city of Bayan Nur in northern China has killed 13 people.
So far, only one person has been rescued, 8 people have died, and the search operation is continuing to find 4 more missing people.
The disaster followed unusually heavy rainfall since July, which meteorologists say is the result of climate change and disruptions to the East Asian monsoon pattern.
These rains have caused flash floods, displaced thousands of people, and caused economic losses of several billion dollars.
Bayan Nur, one of China’s key grain, oil, and livestock production hubs, has been hit by this incident, posing a serious threat to food security and the domestic supply chain.
Agricultural authorities had previously ordered ships to stop at ports to prevent accidents.
These incidents demonstrate the intensification of climate challenges in China and its widespread impacts on the country’s infrastructure and economy.
