Second night of violent clashes in Serbia between protesters and government supporters

On the second night of widespread protests in Serbia, anti-government protesters in the city of Novi Sad damaged the offices of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and clashed with police and party supporters in Belgrade.

These unrest, which began in November 2024 after the deadly roof collapse of the train station in Novi Sad, killing 15 people, has become one of the largest protest movements in Serbia in recent years.

According to reports, 27 police officers and 80 civilians have been injured so far, and 47 people have been arrested.

Protesters accuse President Aleksandar Vucic and his allies of organized corruption, violence against political rivals, and suppression of media freedom, and are demanding the resignation of officials and early elections.

Vucic has responded by accusing the protesters of trying to start a civil war and vowing that arrests will continue.

Despite the resignation of the Prime Minister and the indictment of 13 people in connection with the Novi Sad disaster, protesters consider these measures insufficient and insist on continuing the protests.
