US allies are reconsidering their purchase of F-35 fighter jets due to heavy tariffs and financial demands from President Donald Trump, a blow to one of his favorite projects.
Spain has canceled a multi-billion dollar purchase of F-35 stealth jets following a dispute with Washington over NATO’s new target of allocating 5 percent of GDP to defense spending.
Switzerland, under widespread political pressure due to a 39% US tariff on its exports, is also considering canceling the purchase of 36 F-35s.
India has also suspended purchases of American combat vehicles and anti-tank missiles by up to 50% due to increased US tariffs on its goods.
