Israeli army admits to premeditated killing of Al Jazeera journalist

The Israeli army confirmed that it killed Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif in a targeted attack in Gaza City.

The attack, which took place on Sunday evening near Al-Shifa Hospital, resulted in the deaths of Anas Al-Sharif and four other colleagues, including Muhammad Qariqa Ibrahim Zahir, Muhammad Nofal, and Momin Aliwa.

The Israeli military claimed that Al-Sharif was the leader of a Hamas terrorist cell and had documents to prove this claim, but Al Jazeera and journalist rights organizations, including the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), rejected the accusations, calling them part of a “slander campaign to justify targeting Palestinian journalists.”

Anas Al-Sharif, 28, was one of Al Jazeera’s most prominent figures covering news from northern Gaza. Hours before his death, he had reported on Channel X about the intense and concentrated Israeli bombardment of Gaza.

Hours before the attack, they posted a photo of themselves and wrote, “Our voices will not be silenced as long as we are alive.”
