Mohamed Salah reacts sharply to UEFA’s ambiguous condolence message regarding the martyrdom of the Palestinian footballer

Liverpool’s Egyptian star Mohamed Salah responded to the message of condolences from the European Football Association (UEFA) on the martyrdom of Suleiman al-Obeid, the Palestinian football legend nicknamed “Pele of Palestine”, by posting on the social network X.

UEFA wrote in a short post on Friday on X without mentioning the cause of Al-Obeid’s death: “Farewell to Suleiman Al-Obeid, the Palestinian footballer, a talent who gave hope to children even in the darkest times.”

In response to this ambiguous statement, Salah wrote in a sarcastic tone: “Can you tell us how, where and why he lost his life?”

The post, which quickly went viral on social media, garnered more than 20 million views in less than two hours and received widespread support from users and fans.

The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) and local sources confirmed that Suleiman al-Obeid, 41, was shot and killed by Israeli forces on August 6, 2025, while waiting to receive humanitarian aid in southern Gaza.
