Steve Witkoff arrives in Moscow for talks with Putin
According to news sources, the plane carrying Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, landed in Moscow on the morning of Wednesday (August 6, 2025).
This is Witkoff’s fifth trip to Russia since the beginning of this year, which comes amid US diplomatic efforts to mediate an end to the war in Ukraine.
Vitkoff, who previously met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 11 and 25, 2025, has traveled to Moscow again to discuss US proposals for a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The Kremlin described the meetings as “important and constructive,” but Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that no significant progress should be expected.
However, Ukrainian sources and analysts believe that Putin has little incentive to accept a ceasefire due to Russia’s military advances in Ukraine.
The trip comes as tensions between the United States and Russia have increased following provocative statements by Dmitry Medvedev and the deployment of American nuclear submarines in the region.
