Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders to sign peace agreement at White House

According to the Washington Post, US President Donald Trump will host Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the White House on Friday.

The summit is expected to result in the signing of a historic peace agreement to end the Karabakh conflict.

This development comes as Armenia and Azerbaijan have recently shown progress in peace talks after decades of tension and conflict, especially the bloody wars of the 1990s and 2020s.

News sources have reported that the two countries are ready to sign a memorandum of understanding to commit to peace, which could be an important step in reducing Russian influence in the South Caucasus and strengthening the US mediation role.

Officials in Washington, Baku, and Yerevan have yet to make an official statement on the matter, but Ilham Aliyev has previously praised Trump’s efforts to mediate peace and hailed him as the only US president who has not started a war.
