According to news sources, a group of 41 members of the European Parliament from 14 countries called on the European Union in a joint statement to impose sanctions on Israeli officials and suspend trade agreements with the regime due to the widespread violations of human rights and international law by the Zionist regime, especially in Gaza and the West Bank.
Citing Article 2 of the EU-Israel Cooperation Agreement, which considers respect for human rights and democratic principles a condition for continued cooperation, these representatives emphasized the need for immediate action by the European Union.
This request comes despite the fact that the European Union has had an agreement with Israel since 2000 that covers 30 percent of the regime’s foreign trade.
Despite mounting pressure, including UN reports and International Court of Justice (ICJ) rulings on Israel’s violations of international law, key countries such as Germany and Italy have continued to oppose a complete suspension of the agreement.
