Iranian President’s visit to Pakistan aims to strengthen bilateral relations

Iranian President Masoud Pezhikian left for Pakistan this morning (2 August) at the head of a high-level delegation for an official two-day visit.

This visit is being made at the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and its main goal is to develop and deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Before leaving for Islamabad, the Iranian President stated that there are “deep and intimate ties between Iran and Pakistan, which are rooted not only in the economic, commercial, cultural and scientific fields, but also in deep bonds of faith.”

He added that the two countries plan to increase their trade exchange from the current level of $3 billion to $10 billion.

During this trip, Pezzekian will meet with senior Pakistani officials, including President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and issues such as border cooperation, regional security, and the development of common markets will be discussed.

He will also discuss the need for coordination to strengthen regional security and counter enemies’ efforts to create division among Islamic countries.
