On Thursday morning, (30th of July 2025), Tom Barrack, the US special envoy for Syria, supported the positions of Ahmed al-Sharaa, known as Muhammad al-Julani, the interim president of Syria, in a statement and emphasized the alignment of the goals of the two sides.
“I am sure that Al-Sharaa has honest intentions and its goals in Syria are aligned with ours,” Barak said, according to Al Jazeera.
Barak also considered US President Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria to be absolutely correct, adding: “Security and stability in Syria can only be achieved through the participation of all strata and currents in the national government project.”
In another part of his speech, the US special envoy addressed Al-Shara’s position towards the Zionist regime, saying: “Al-Shara has clearly stated that it does not consider Israel an enemy, but rather sees it as a country that wants to establish a demilitarized zone in southern Syria to ensure its security.”
