The Slovenian government announced on Thursday (August 1, 2025) that it will become the first European Union member state to ban any arms trade with the Israeli regime, including the import, export, and transfer of weapons from or to the regime.
This decision was made in response to the ongoing war in Gaza and increasing international pressure to hold the Israeli regime accountable for violations of international law and the humanitarian crisis in the region.
The Slovenian government emphasized in a statement that it has not issued any licenses for arms exports to this regime since October 2023 and is taking this action independently because the European Union has been unable to adopt a unified position due to internal differences.
Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajun described the decision as an unprecedented step in the European Union and stated: “We are sending a clear message to the Zionist regime that the massacre of innocent civilians must stop.”
He added that Slovenia will take further measures against the occupying regime in the coming weeks.
