Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, once again announced her country’s firm opposition to the use of hunger as a weapon in the war between Hamas and Israel at a UN Security Council meeting.
He called for urgent action by the international community to end the blockade of Gaza and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the region.
Referring to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, Sheikha Alia called it beyond description and reported widespread famine, collapse of infrastructure, outbreak of diseases, and the deaths of more than 58,000 people, including about 18,000 children, in Palestine.
In another part of his speech, he also emphasized Qatar’s commitment to mediation efforts to support Afghanistan, saying that Qatar will continue to host the Doha Process for Afghanistan under the auspices of the United Nations to fully integrate the country into the international community.
Qatar has once again established its role as an active mediator in regional and global crises and has called for international cooperation to resolve these challenges.
