Members of ISIS-affiliated group arrested in Uzbekistan

The State Security Department of Uzbekistan announced the identification and dismantling of a group affiliated with the Khorasan branch of ISIS in the city of Namangan.

During the security forces’ operation, four people were arrested on charges of membership in this terrorist group and more than 10 others were interrogated.

According to the Gaz Ta Oz website, the group was formed by a 19-year-old girl who studied in Istanbul.

During the inspection of the group’s residence, 16 people were present, and items including 37 mobile phones, 51 volumes of unpublished religious books, 40 DVDs, 4 flash drives, a laptop, and a tablet were discovered and confiscated.

Investigations show that this group, in its secret meetings in Namangan, propagated the ideological sermons of international terrorist organizations and called for jihad and martyrdom.

One of the members of this group was the founder of a private university in the city of Namangan.

Criminal cases have been filed against the group’s leader and three active members, and they are in temporary detention, while other members of the group are still under interrogation.
