Surrender of Khurshid Harki after heavy fighting in Erbil, Iraq
According to informed sources, Khurshid Harki, a prominent and wealthy member of the Harki tribe, finally surrendered after intense and unprecedented armed clashes with Peshmerga forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party led by Massoud Barzani in the Khabat area of Erbil.
Haraki, who had previously become one of the staunchest opponents of the Barzani family due to civil and political disputes, declared in a statement after surrendering: “I and my forces are Massoud Barzani’s soldiers to the death.”
These statements were made at a time when the clashes had left several dead and injured and had created significant tensions in the Kurdistan Region.
Local sources have reported that following mediation by a representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s President Nechirvan Barzani, the clashes have stopped and that Khurshid Harki will be Barzani’s guest for a week to resolve the differences with the Gorran tribe.
Calm has gradually returned to the Khabat region, and roads connecting Erbil, Dohuk, and Mosul have reopened.
