Massive fire in Marseille, France, closes airport and halts trains
According to news sources, a massive fire that broke out near Marseille, France’s second largest city, on Tuesday morning quickly spread into the city.
The massive fire caused the temporary closure of Marseille-Provence airport, halted train services and warned residents to stay indoors.
Local authorities have advised people to keep their windows closed and place damp cloths over the vents to prevent smoke from entering.
The fire department reported that 30 hectares of forest have been destroyed in the fire so far, and more than 60 fire trucks, two helicopters, and about 170 firefighters have been dispatched to the area to contain the fire.
The incident occurred following a severe heat wave in the region, which has disrupted rail and road transport in parts of Marseille.
