Floods, monsoon rains kill 45 in Pakistan
Heavy monsoon rains and flash floods have killed at least 45 people in Pakistan in recent days.
According to Pakistani media reports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province suffered the most casualties with 21 victims, including 10 children.
In the Swat Valley of the state, floods have killed 14 people, mostly living near rivers.
In Punjab province, Pakistan’s most populous region, 13 people died, eight of whom were children who were killed when roofs or walls of houses collapsed.
Eleven deaths have also been reported in the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rainfall and the risk of flooding will continue until next Saturday.
Pakistan, one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, also saw 32 people die last month due to severe storms and hail.
This country of 240 million people suffers heavy losses from climate events every year.
