Criticizing Trump’s full support for Netanyahu in his corruption case, Haaretz newspaper wrote, “Trump made a bad mistake by interfering in Netanyahu’s trial, because this interference portrays Israel as a country dependent on the United States.”
Earlier, Yair Lapid, the leader of Netanyahu’s opposition, called Trump’s request an interference in the sovereignty of the Israeli regime and said that this request was made in the context of the American efforts to end the war in Gaza.
The Supreme Court of Israel has also said that the holding of Netanyahu’s trial has nothing to do with war conditions, and he had previously appeared in the court in the midst of the Gaza war as well as prisoner exchange negotiations.
