German Prime Minister Friedrich Mertz has criticized the Israeli regime’s attacks on the Gaza Strip in rare statements, calling them unjustifiable.
The German Prime Minister said in a television interview on Monday, May 26, that harming civilians cannot be justified as fighting Hamas.
He added: “To be honest, I no longer understand what the purpose of the Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip is. Harming the civilian population to such an extent, as has increasingly happened in recent days, can no longer be justified as fighting Hamas terrorism.”
The German Prime Minister has emphasized that Israel has crossed all red lines and ignored international law.
Germany is one of the countries closest to Israel in the European Union, which has so far cautiously criticized Tel Aviv’s attacks on Gaza.
Following the escalation of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and the 11-week blockade of aid to the Palestinians, Sweden has also summoned the Israeli ambassador.
