Turkish air attack on Kobani village left 9 dead

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced late Sunday that nine civilians had been killed in Turkish airstrikes targeting the rural outskirts of Kobani, escalating an already volatile situation in northeastern Syria.

In a statement released via Telegram, the SDF reported that a Turkish plane bombed a family working in the agricultural sector south of Kobani late Sunday night.

In this airstrike, which targeted the area between the villages of Barkh, Bhutan, nine members of a family were killed and two others were injured.

This attack is the latest in a series of Turkish military operations targeting areas under the control of the SDF forces, a US-backed armed group that played a key role in the fight against ISIS in Syria.

Ankara defends its ongoing border attacks by stating that the People’s Protection Units (YPG), which is the backbone of the Syrian Democratic Forces, and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Turkey, the United States and the European Union identify as a terrorist organization.
