Financial Times: Ukraine and the United States reached an agreement on mineral resources
The Financial Times newspaper reported that Kiev has reached an understanding with Washington on an agreement on mineral resources.
Ukrainian officials hope the deal will improve relations with the Trump administration and pave the way for a long-term US security commitment to Ukraine.
According to this agreement, the two countries will jointly develop Ukraine’s mineral resources, including oil and gas.
Meanwhile, America has given up on its previous request to receive 500 billion dollars of royalties from the possible revenues of these sources.
Ukrainian officials said they had secured much better terms than the original proposals, describing the deal as a way to expand ties with the United States and boost Ukraine’s prospects after three years of war.
Ukraine’s deputy prime minister and justice minister Olha Stefanyshina, who has led the talks, told the Financial Times: “The mineral resource agreement is only part of the big picture.”
We have repeatedly heard from the US government that this agreement is part of a bigger picture
