Trump called the developments in Syria an unfriendly occupation by Turkey

In a news conference on Monday, 16th of December President-elect Donald Trump described the developments that led to the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in Syria by his armed opposition as “an unfriendly occupation of this country by Turkey.”

According to AFP, Trump told reporters at his residence in Florida, “I think Turkey acted very smartly. Turkey did an unfriendly occupation without losing many lives.” I can say that Assad was a butcher; What he did to the children was horrible.

Bashar Assad fled the Syrian capital early this month and took refuge in Russia after a quick attack by the Islamist group Tahrir al-Sham, which caused various cities to fall out of his control.

Türkiye has been known as one of the main supporters of his opponents since the first days of the rebellion against Assad in 2011.

Türkiye has hosted political opponents of Assad and millions of Syrian refugees and has supported rebel groups fighting against the Syrian army.

The president-elect of the United States said: “Türkiye is a great power and Erdogan is someone with whom I had good relations; He built a very strong and powerful army that has not been involved in war and has not worn out.”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that his main priority in Syria is to cleanse the country of Kurdish separatist fighters. A goal that, according to the new Syrian government, is also supported by them.
