Reuters: USA and Iraq reached an understanding for the withdrawal of coalition forces

Reuters news agency, quoting several informed sources, announced that the US government and the Iraqi government have reached an agreement on the plan to withdraw the international coalition forces led by the United States from Iraq.

These sources explained that this plan includes the withdrawal of hundreds of coalition forces by September 2025 and the rest by the end of the year 2026.

There are broad agreements about this plan and it is currently waiting for the final approval of the two countries to announce its official date.

A senior American official told Reuters: “We have reached an agreement and now the only question is when to announce it.”

The US and Iraq are also looking to establish a new advisory relationship to allow some US forces to remain in Iraq after the coalition pulls out remain in this country.

The sources said that an official announcement was scheduled at first a few weeks ago, but due to the escalation of tension regional issues related to the war in the Gaza Strip and also for the settlement of some remaining details has been postponed.
