The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement strongly condemning Ukraine’s military attack on an Iranian merchant ship in the Caspian Sea, calling it a violation of the United Nations Charter and an act of aggression.
Based on this statement, as a result of the attack, which occurred on the morning of Saturday, August 3, one sailor was martyred and another was injured. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this action could lead to the spread of war and increased insecurity in the region.
The ministry also emphasized that the attack on the Iranian merchant ship, which it said was also approved by the Ukrainian president, demonstrates the continuation of Kiev’s hostile approach towards Tehran.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the United Nations Security Council, European countries, and other UN members to take a responsible stance against this incident and hold the Ukrainian government accountable.
The declaration states that Iran will defend its national interests and security based on the principles of international law, especially the principle of self-defense, and holds the Ukrainian government and its supporters responsible for the consequences of this incident.
