Hundreds of prisoners rioted in a prison in the state of Barinas, Venezuela, and took control of parts of the prison for several hours.
Published images show a number of prisoners gathering on the roof of the prison, setting fire to mattresses and other items inside the prison, and attempting to break through the barbed wire fences.
According to reports, prisoners have been chanting slogans against prison officials and demanding the removal of the head of the center.
Protesters have accused prison authorities of torturing, mistreating, and shooting unarmed prisoners.
Some published videos also show injured prisoners claiming that security forces shot at them.
