Richard Bennett calls for independent investigation into attack on Omid Hospital in Kabul

Richard Bennett, the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur on Afghanistan, has said that the attack on the “Omid” addiction treatment hospital in Kabul requires a full and independent investigation.

Referring to the March 16 attack, in which more than 269 civilians died, according to UNAMA, he emphasized that deliberate attacks on civilians or civilian facilities may constitute war crimes.

Mr. Bennett also called on the Islamic Emirate to ensure the safety of patients in such health centers.
