UN warns against forced deportation of Afghan refugees

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Turk Volker has warned against the continued forced deportation of Afghan refugees from host countries, saying that this process is contrary to international human rights and refugee law.

He has called on European countries not to deport Afghan citizens without an individual risk assessment, because Afghanistan is still facing a humanitarian crisis, insecurity, and a dire human rights situation.

According to UN statistics, nearly 270,000 Afghan refugees have been deported to Afghanistan since the beginning of this year, mainly from Iran and Pakistan.
