Trump announces death of ISIS number two in joint US-Nigerian operation
US President Donald Trump has announced that Abu Bilal “Al-Minuqi”, ISIS’s number two leader worldwide, has been killed in a joint operation by US and Nigerian forces.
Trump wrote on the “Truth Social” network that this operation was carried out in a “complex and precise” manner on his orders and in cooperation with US and Nigerian forces.
He added that Al-Minuki, a Nigerian national, was trying to hide in Africa, but American forces were aware of his movements; Trump did not disclose the exact location of the operation.
According to the US Federal Register, Al Minucci was designated a “specially designated global terrorist” by the Biden administration in 2023.
The United States has previously carried out attacks against ISIS-linked groups in Nigeria, and hundreds of American soldiers have been deployed to the country for training and intelligence support.
